I am glad to run across your website. I work in narrative psychology, which helps people with issues of forgiveness through oral autobiography. Based on this work, I question whether self-forgiveness is the most appropriate goal for some people. Some people land on self-acceptance and others arrive at a point where they experience a sense of forgiveness from source outside themselves. This source can be God, or nature, or the universe, or a transcendent reality that is hard to define. Some philosophers question whether it is even possible for a self to forgive the self.

Dear Galen,

Thank you for your insightful comment! We always appreciate hearing from other experts in this field - your contributions to our explorations are of the highest value to us.

These are certainly interesting ideas and questions to explore, and they certainly highlight the complexities and scope of forgiveness. We might often find ourselves questioning what 'forgiveness' actually means when we look to ourselves, and perhaps how it differentiates in root and effect from other potential methods of healing. It all feels quite sprawling - though that is the nature of our work! We always lead by the testimonies of our storyteller's, for they are often the best equipped to help guide us through all of these ideas!

Thank you again for taking the time to read and engage with our work - your support means the utmost to us!

Kindest regards,

Georgia Gill,
